Goodbye December… Hello 2017!

Administrator : December 14, 2016 1:18 pm : Blog

goodbye decemberCan you believe it is already the middle of December?! 2016 has absolutely flown by and to be honest, we’re finding it a little difficult to say goodbye. Here at Estero Country Club we have had an absolutely incredible year. From a prosperous January, to celebrating our 30th anniversary, from a year that took golfing at ECC to the next level; we’ve truly seen it all.

30 years ago, Estero Country Club began in the heart of a growing area. Over the years we have swelled, shifted, and become the active, happy community that you know today. This year, we remembered our roots, hosting events, activities, and parties to celebrate our anniversary and everything it stands for.

Estero Country Club is proud to be part of this community. We would not be where we are without our loyal members, our strong staff, and the countless men and women, businesses, organizations, and fundraisers that choose ECC as their venue for everything from private parties, weddings, to a fun day out on the course.

We want to celebrate the end of the year with you! Join us as we take a look back at a successful year and fun future!

Happy and Healthy in SWFL

The year started off great for southwest Florida! In February, NBC News named Naples, Florida, our southern neighbors, the happiest and healthiest city in the United States! Out of fifty states, thousands of cities and their health initiatives, Naples was where researchers found the most smiling faces and healthiest people.

Naples is a high well-being place, Dan Witters, Research Director of the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, told TODAY. People in Naples really like their communities.

The top five communities included:

  • Naples-Immokalee-Marco Island, Florida
  • Salinas, California
  • North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida
  • Fort Collins, Colorado
  • Barnstable Town, Massachusetts

Junior Golfers at Estero Country Club

Over the summer, golf was in high demand! Estero Country Club’s Assistant Golf Professional, Tom Donovan didn’t get enough golf at ECC, so he offered his expertise to the Boys Golf Team at the Community School of Naples. The boy’s team had a successful year, finishing second at Regional’s and advancing to the State Finals. There were strong teams, but the team played their best and advanced the Community School of Naples to the state tournament for the first time in three years!

Community School of Naples wasn’t the only local team that made headlines! The Estero High School Girls Golf team dominated the Districts and played a nail biting game at Regionals. After finishing second at the Districts, the team moved on to Regionals. While the team did not advance to the State Finals, Kim Egozi moved on to State as an individual. They participated in a state wide tournament in Sebring in September, finishing third, and completed their dual-meet season 11-1. To top it all off, the girl’s snagged the winning title as the Conference Championship.

Junior Golf has risen exponentially in recent years, encouraging the youth of southwest Florida to get out there and play!

It’s Not Over Yet!

Don’t think we’ve already shut the door on 2016! Estero Country Club still has a lot planned before 2017 greets us. We will be hosting a New Year’s Eve party that you will never forget! Join us for a night of food, fun, and festivities to welcome 2017 in style!

Thank you to everyone who’s helped us on our path to success. Our members are the vital veins of our community. Thank you for supporting us, staying loyal, and for always being there with a helping hand.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday!

LPGA CME Group Tour Championship Wraps Up in SWFL

The 2016 CME Group Tour Championship wrapped up in Naples, Florida this past Sunday. The Tiburon Golf Club hosted the LPGA tour from Thursday, November 17th to Sunday, November 20th for a weekend of surprises, a bit of drama, and great golf.

LPGA in Naples, Florida

One of the biggest surprises of the day was first-time LPGA Title Winner, Charley Hull. The 20-year-old from England ended with -19.

Feels great to be a winner on the LPGA tour, Hull told NBC Golf. It’s wicked to do it at 20.

There were plenty of winners at the LPGA tour! Ariya Jutanugarn won the CME Globe $1 million jackpot, the Rolex Player of the Year Award and the LPGA money-winning title.

My dream come true, Jutanugarn said. I never think my name can be on this trophy, and, right now, I’m really proud of myself.

Not every face was a smiling one by the end of the tournament, but the spirit of the game lives on with the professionalism and sportsmanship we all saw on Sunday from both the winners and those who didn’t quite meet their target.

Another winner was the weather! Naples, Florida has been home to the tour for the past 4 years, and will continue to host the fantastic sport in the future.

Tiburon and the Ritz-Carlton are wonderful partners and hosts to CME Group as well as the LPGA Tour, Dennis Baggett, Senior Director, LPGA Tour Properties told Naples Daily News. We couldn’t ask for a better home here in Naples. The tournament has begun discussions for a continued partnership for many years to come. We hope to be able to provide further announcements in the coming months.

Future Players at ECC

At Estero Country Club, we believe that sportsmanship and strong character building can start anywhere, even the course! Golf is alive in southwest Florida. Get front row seats to the next generation of golfers!

Growing the Game of Golf in Southwest Florida

Administrator : November 1, 2016 1:19 pm : Blog

Growing the Game of Golf in Southwest FloridaAs we complete our summer at Estero Country Club, we take the time to reflect on this year’s supported efforts to “grow the game of golf” in our wonderful community. Despite all the doom and gloom you read in print and social media about the dying art of the game of golf – golf is alive and well at ECC!

This summer, we’ve seen the junior golf community flourish thanks to a dedicated group of young players, ECC’s golf professionals, and the support of southwest Florida! Estero Country Club will proudly continue to support junior golf and grow the game.

Today’s junior is tomorrow’s member!

Growing Golf in the Community

The community had quite a busy season, on and off the course! Estero Country Club’s Assistant Golf Professional, Tom Donovan clear doesn’t get enough of golf at Estero Country Club, as he also coaches the Boys Golf Team at the Community School of Naples. The boy’s team recently finished second at Regionals and will be advancing to the State Finals, at the Mission Inn and Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills from Oct. 28-29.

csnregional2016After finishing second in the district tournament, the Community School of Naples’ golf team, earned their spot in the regional tournament, hosted at Verandah Golf Club. While the game started tough, +13 for the first 4 holes, Harrison Ornstein inspired the team with birdies on three holes in a row. As word spread to the rest of the team, the boys’ confidence grew and they played the remaining 14 holes at +10, giving the team a total of 311, 23 over par.

Despite a strong finish, it was a close game from the rival teams. The boys didn’t let that sway their intent, and they ended up edging out Bishop Verot (312) and district rival Seacrest (314), advancing the Community School of Naples to the state tournament for the first time in three years!

The individual scores were:

  • Harrison Ornstein – 73
  • Josh Braverman – 73
  • Tommy Amendola – 82
  • James Phelps – 83
  • Mason Messina – 85

Overall, it was great playing by every member of the team!

“We were struggling as a team,” Tommy Donovan told the Naples Daily News at last year’s tournament. This year looked a little brighter for the boys, as they soared to the State tournament.

We can’t wait to see the results of the State tournament October 28th and 29th at Mission Inn.

ecc-girls-golfEstero Country Club saw another team rise in the game of golf! Last month, The Estero High School Girls Golf team dominated the Districts and played a nail biting game at Regionals. After finishing second at the Districts, hosted at the Vineyards Country Club’s South, the team moved on to Regionals at Golf Hammock Golf Club in Sebring. While the team did not advance to the State Finals, Kim Egozi moved on to State as an individual.

Estero High School had a busy season! They participated in a state wide tournament in Sebring in September, finishing third, and completed their dual-meet season 11-1. To top it all off, the girl’s snagged the winning title as the Conference Championship. Southwest Florida also saw the rise of another Junior Golf star, Canterbury School’s Brittany Shin won the A-6 individual girls golf title Monday at Bradenton Country Club

All those southwest Florida teams showed grace, perseverance, and courage on the course this season. Estero Country Club is honored to be designated practice course for Estero High School, and we’re so proud of our very own Tom Donovan for lending his expertise to the Community School of Naples.

Here’s to another great year!

Junior Golfers on Par in Southwest Florida

Administrator : October 20, 2016 10:37 am : Blog

TJunior Golfers on Par in SWFL he Estero High School Girls Golf team chose Estero Country Club to practice their swing and strengthen their skills this season and all of their hard work has certainly paid off!

The Girl’s Golf team dominated the Districts and played a nail biting game at Regionals. After finishing second at the Districts, hosted at the Vineyards Country Club’s South, the team moved on to Regionals at Golf Hammock Golf Club in Sebring. The game was rousing, but even though the team will not be advancing to State, player Kim Egozi will move on to the State Finals as an individual. As if that wasn’t enough for these strong players, the team participated in a state wide tournament in Sebring last month and finished third! Estero High School has completed their dual meet season 11-1, as well as snagging the winning title as the Conference Championship.

The team has showed incredible strength and drive, both on and off the course. Estero Country Club’s not done with the season yet, though! 28-29.

Golf is a game for every age. From physical fitness to character growth, the game instills confidence, good sportsmanship, and courage. Particularly for the youth of southwest Florida, benefits of golf are endless.

Health and Wellness

Staying active and healthy outdoors is great advice for any age. For the youth, in particular, it is about instilling exercise and healthy activity as a habit. Develop the “Healthy Habit” now and it will become a lifelong passion. According to The First Tee, between playing golf, walking the course, and carrying your bag, a 150-pound person burns 350 calories and walks over 10,000 steps. Now, that’s healthy!

Quality Bonding Time

The hustle and bustle of the work week is a lot to deal with. Take some time to put away the phone, close your laptop, and spend quality time with the Junior Golfer in your life. Golf is a participatory sport that encourages perverseness, honesty, and courage.

Character Building

Golf is as challenging as it is fun. The highs and lows of the game, parallels the real world very closely. Staying focuses and managing emotions when the game gets tough establishes the importance of positivity, perspective, and the reward of a job well done!

Junior Golfers Abound

The benefits of enrolling your children into one of our many Junior Programs is endless. We have the facilities and instruction to offer a fun, green golfing experience. Check out what lessons will be best for your future championship winner.

Estero Country Club offers a pristine, green course for members and guests. Golf’s Mighty Return at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics

Administrator : August 16, 2016 8:02 am : Blog

Golf’s Mighty Return at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics

ECC Olympics blog

After 112 years, golf has finally returned to the Olympics.

Golf was introduced to the Olympic Games in Paris in 1900 and later in St. Louis in 1904. It was removed when there was an eligibility dispute with the Olympic committee. Concerned by the lack of organization and miscommunication, all British players withdrew.

Even after a support committee was formed, it failed to return due to the lack of entries and sadly, golf disappeared from the Olympic games for over a century.

On October 9, 2009, however, the International Olympic Committee voted to reinstate golf as an Olympic sport for Rio 2016 and the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

According to the official Rio Summer Olympic games, the competition will consist of a circuit of 72-hole stroke play. The winner is determined as the athlete who finishes the circuit with the lowest number of shots at the end of 4 rounds of 18 holes.

This past Sunday, golf proved to belong in the Olympics with a nail-biting game on the green. Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson battled it out. After a two-lead tie, Justin Rose sunk an incredible birdie and claimed the gold for Great Britain.

I felt very inspired this week, very focused, very motivated. I made it a big deal in my schedule, I made it a big deal all year, I made it a highlight. says gold medalist Justin Rose, I don’t know who wouldn’t want to be a part of a great competition.

If Rio 2016 has taught us anything it’s that golf belongs in the Olympics. Viewers from all over the world have watched with unbridled joy as player from different countries have brought the game back to the Summer games with a full swing!

We’ll forgive the 112 golf-free spell if the International Olympic Committee promise to never remove the game again! Just like other Olympic sports, player demonstrate incredible drive (in both senses of the word), passion, and unrivaled athleticism.

Estero Country Club is looking forward to watching golf again in 2020!

It’s Not Over Yet

While the Men’s portion of the games is completed, the Women’s Individual begins tomorrow, August 17th! 16 women from around the world will be competing for the gold! Don’t miss it!

Women’s Individual Schedule

  • Round 1: Wednesday, August 17th at 11:30
  • Round 2: Thursday, August 18th at 11:30
  • Round 3: Friday, August 19th at 11:30
  • Final: Saturday, August 20th at 11:00

Junior Golfers at Estero Country Club

Junior Golfers at Estero Country Club

ECC Blog JulyBuilding Character in Southwest Florida

48 boys and 20 girls teed off at Estero Country Club on July 11th, beginning a bright day filled with friendly competition, fun, and sportsmanship. The Junior Golfers traveled to our lush green with the Southwest Florida Junior Golf Association (SWFJGA), a local organization that is dedicated to spreading the love of the game to young men and women.

The tournament was a group effort between SWFJGA, ECC, and our many incredible volunteers who carted children between holes. We couldn’t have done it without each and every individual involved.

This wonderful organization is really growing the game of golf in southwest Florida, particularly for young women. Seeing the happy, smiling faces during the tournament really drove the importance of social sport for our youth. Golf, in particular, is a great game to grow as an athlete, as well as an individual.

The Next Generation of Golf

Volunteers bring Junior Golfers to their next hole.

Volunteers bring Junior Golfers to their next hole.

As stated on SWFJGA’s website, their mission is “to provide juniors with the opportunity to golf under tournament conditions while learning the Rules of Golf, build individual character, integrity, sportsmanship and meet new friends.”

For four incredible decades, over 3,000 juniors have played in the SWFJGA, a few of those junior golfers going on to be PGA and LPGA touring professionals, local PGA and LPGA club professionals, as well as many local business leaders.

That’s what it’s really about; growing in character and community. Golf is a challenging sport in both body and mind. It’s as Arnold Palmer said, “deceptively simple and endlessly complicated.” That’s why it has been played for centuries. It’s a challenge that is always pushing us to be the best that we can be.

Golfing at a young age propels children into a strong social setting that improves skills, builds friendship, and promotes healthy and fun competition. Together, we are building the next generation of golf!

Top Tips That Will Change the Way You Golf

Administrator : June 23, 2016 10:30 am : Blog

ECC Blog June“Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated.”

Arnold Palmer

Golf is as as ingrained in the southwest Florida lifestyle as the beach and sunshine. Visitors from all over the world flock to our sunny coast to hone their skill and swing to their heart’s content. Residents and guests alike will spend their summer out on the green, improving their golf game, and hoping to beat their opponents in a friendly, competitive game.

Estero Country Club is committed to your success out on the green! Try these top tips from the professionals and hone your skills!

It’s All About Drive

“Your posture is very important with tee shots,” Martin Laird, winner of the 2011 Arnold Palmer Invitational, illuminates on some of golf’s best kept secrets. “You want that athletic stance—feet a little wider than shoulder-width apart. it’s not quite as low, but it’s kind of like defense in basketball.”

Think of yourself like a spring; coil tight and release for a long drive. “The power in golf comes from your legs and lower half, not from your arms,” Laird says. Start off strong and put yourself in a good spot before the closer shots.

The Perfect Shot

The most common mistake golfers make is improper alignment. Your shot starts with the club, ensure that you’re reaching your potential by lining up the clubface.

The correct way to align your shots is to always begin by first assessing your target from behind the ball. This will give you a perspective of the entire hole and help you aim right where you want the ball to go. The trick is to align your clubface and ball with the target before you get into your stance. Don’t wait until afterwards because your perspective can be warped.

The next time you’re watching a game, carefully look at the professionals on the green. You’ll see them all lining up their shots the correct way.

Green, Lean, Knowledge Machine

The grass on the course can tell you more than you realize.

“The color and shade of the grass is helpful.” Martin Laird says, “If you turn and look one direction and the grain is darker and you look the other way and it looks lighter and shinier, the darker the color the more into the grain you are. It can make a huge difference on the pace of the putt.”

Knowing and understanding the direction of the grass will help you know where the ball is going to break. Brush up on your observation skills and it will make all the difference in your score.

Master the Putt

The trick to great putt technique is stance and grip. As discussed above, your stance should be shoulder-width apart, with a slight bend of the knees. When it comes to the grip, think toothpaste! Martin Laird explains, “Grip it like a tube of toothpaste with the lid off—you don’t want to squeeze the toothpaste out,” he says.

Practice makes perfect. If you’re not feeling confident about your putt, take some time beforehand for a few practice rounds.

Swing with the Right Club

We’re not talking about Estero Country Club, but your actual club!

Many beginners find club’s confusing and it’s easy to see why. With so many to choose from, it’s difficult to know what club is best for which shot. There are two things that you need to know when determining your shot and subsequent club; distance to the target and how far you hit with various clubs. That means you need to take the time to know how far you hit with each club. This takes time and lots of practice.

While you’re practicing, write down your averages on a sheet of paper for reference. Eventually, you’ll know them by heart. As you improve, you’ll know the difference between swinging with an 8-iron versus a 7-iron. All it takes is practice and perseverance.

Swing Hard in SWFL
